Michael T. Lawton, MD

Dr. Michael Lawton received a degree in biomedical engineering from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island and his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. He completed his neurosurgery residency at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Arizona, where he also completed a clinical fellowship in cerebrovascular and skull base surgery. After joining the faculty at the University of California at San Francisco, he later completed a fellowship in endovascular surgery there. To date, Dr. Lawton has published over 450 peer-reviewed articles, three single-author textbooks, and over 70 book chapters. Dr. Lawton is the President and CEO of Barrow Neurological Institute and the Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery. As a neurosurgical oncologist and co-investigator at the Ivy Brain Tumor Center, Dr. Lawton’s clinical areas of surgical expertise include brain and spinal tumors.
